(a) In the case of loss or destruction of a firearm safety certificate, the issuing instructor shall issue a duplicate certificate upon request and proof of identification to the certificate holder. (b) In the case of loss or destruction of a handgun safety certificate, the issuing instructor shall issue a duplicate certificate upon request and proof of identification to the certificate holder, which shall be valid only for the balance of the unexpired term of the original certificate. (c) The department may authorize the issuing instructor to charge a fee, not to exceed fifteen dollars ($15), for a duplicate certificate. Revenues from this fee shall be deposited in the Firearms Safety and Enforcement Special Fund created pursuant to Section 28300. (d) This section shall become operative on January 1, 2015.
