Inspections required by this part shall be made either by qualified safety engineers employed by the division or by certified inspectors; provided, however, that shop inspections shall be made by the division, acting through its qualified safety engineers when request therefor is made by any manufacturer of tanks or boilers. (a) As used in this chapter a “certified inspector” is one who is qualified to make inspections or examinations of boilers or tanks according to the rules under which the vessel is constructed, who has an unrevoked certificate of competency issued pursuant to this part, and who is employed by any one of the following: (1) A county. (2) A city. (3) An insurer. (4) An employer, for the purpose of inspecting only tanks and boilers under his jurisdiction. (b) As used in this chapter a “qualified safety engineer” is one who is qualified to make inspections or examinations of boilers or tanks according to the rules under which the vessel is constructed. Such qualification is to be determined by a written examination prescribed by the division.
