âMultiple employer welfare arrangementâ as used in this article has the same meaning as that contained in Section 1002(40)(A) of Title 29 of the United States Code. âEmployee welfare benefit plan,â as used in this article, has the same meaning as that contained in Section 1002(1) of Title 29 of the United States Code. A multiple employer welfare arrangement shall comply with the criteria set forth for an employee welfare benefit plan in order to qualify to obtain a certificate of compliance.
