Except as otherwise provided in this article or in the other provisions of this code, the internal affairs of every domestic mutual insurer writing classes of insurance which include life or disability insurance shall be governed by Division 1 of Title 1 of the Corporations Code. For the purpose of applying the provisions of Division 1 of Title 1 of the Corporations Code, the provisions thereof referring to shareholders or members shall be applied as though such provisions referred to the policyholders or members of a mutual insurer.
