(a) This chapter shall be known, and may be cited, as the Safe Body Art Act. (b) The purpose of this chapter is to provide minimum statewide standards for the regulation of persons engaged in the business or performance of tattooing, body piercing, branding, and the application of permanent cosmetics in California. These requirements are intended to protect both the practitioner and the client from transmission of infectious diseases through the application of proper body art procedures and the control of cross-contamination of instruments and supplies.
