âPet food ingredientsâ means each of the constituent materials making up a processed pet food. Pet food ingredients of animal or poultry origin shall be only from animals or poultry slaughtered or processed in an approved or licensed establishment. Such animal or poultry ingredients condemned for human food but passed for animal food in an establishment inspected by the United States Department of Agriculture or the Department of Food and Agriculture of this state may be used for pet food, provided it is properly denatured or handled in accordance with this chapter and regulations of the department and the regulations of the Department of Food and Agriculture of this state so as to render the ingredients safe for pet food. Animals or poultry classified as âdeadsâ are prohibited.
