(a) The Attorney General shall notify the Controller in writing when all claims for which an appropriation is made to the the Department of Justice or the Attorney General pursuant to subdivision (b) of Section 965 have been paid. The Controller shall, at the close of the fiscal year in which notice of payment is received from the Attorney General, cause any undisbursed balance to revert to the fund from which the appropriation was made. (b) Whenever an appropriation exceeds the actual amount necessary to satisfy a settlement in accordance with the settlement agreement or a judgment, the excess shall revert to the fund from which the appropriation was made.
