(a) The commission, upon recommendation of the department, may suspend or revoke the commercial fishing privileges of any fisherman or the license of any person required to be licensed under Article 7 (commencing with Section 8030) who is convicted of a violation of this article or Article 7.5 (commencing with Section 8040). (b) This section shall become operative on January 1, 1992.
