(a) It is the intent of the Legislature that, when the department hires staff due to the mill increases described in Section 12841 and registration fee increases in 2024, the department prioritize hiring for positions within the pesticide registration branch. (b) Beginning in 2025, the director, when requested by the appropriate policy committees of the Assembly and Senate, but no less than once every two years, shall appear before the appropriate policy committees of the Assembly and Senate to provide an update on the department’s performance, including, but not limited to, its performance completing timely registrations and reevaluations pursuant to this chapter, and any other information that the committees request.
