(a) (1) If the governing board of a school district requires more than two courses in mathematics for graduation from high school, the governing board of the school district may award a pupil up to one mathematics course credit pursuant to subparagraph (B) of paragraph (1) of subdivision (a) of Section 51225.3 for successfully completing a âcategory Câ approved computer science course. (2) The governing board of a school district is encouraged to ensure that any computer science course that the school district awards a pupil mathematics course credit for pursuant to paragraph (1) builds upon fundamental mathematics content. (3) The governing board of a school district is encouraged to support schools in submitting any computer science course that a school wishes to use to fulfill school district imposed mathematics subject area requirements to the University of California for certification and addition to the schoolâs âAâGâ course list. (b) For purposes of this section, âcategory Câ refers to the âAâGâ admission requirements for the California State University and the University of California.
