(a) The Superintendent of Public Instruction may apply to the United States Office of Education for recognition as an accrediting agency for private vocational schools under his or her jurisdiction for the purposes of receiving federal funds. (b) If the Superintendent of Public Instruction is recognized by the federal government as an accrediting agency for private vocational schools under his jurisdiction, he or she may impose a fee for services performed in connection with such accreditation in an amount sufficient to cover the costs incurred by him or her in performing that function.
