(a) Liability policies shall meet the minimum legal requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Responsibility Act, § 27-19-101 et seq., with reference to coverage on motor vehicles. (b) The State Insurance Department is authorized to include in the Public School Motor Vehicle Insurance Program and make available physical damage and medical payments coverage to the participating entities. Medical payments coverage shall be limited to five thousand dollars ($5,000) per occupant of a school vehicle and shall be in addition to any other automobile medical payments coverage available to any occupant.
