(a) The Division of Aeronautics shall examine or cause to be examined downed aircraft transmitting devices submitted to it for approval by the manufacturer or distributor and shall approve for use those units found to be effective and reliable within the limits and standards established by the division. (b) Manufacturers or distributors making application for approval shall as prescribed by the division furnish information, supply units for testing, and submit fees as determined by the division sufficient to defray the cost of testing. (c) The downed aircraft transmitting devices approved by the division must be of sufficient durability to withstand the impact of a crash and automatically activate to transmit an effective signal on a preset emergency distress radio frequency to enable the location of the aircraft to be fixed.
