Notice of intent to settle

(a) An insurer shall provide its insured written notice of the terms of settlement of a claim if the insured: (1) Notifies the insurer in writing that the amount of or liability for the claim is contested; and (2) Requests in writing notice of the insurer's settlement of the claim. (b) Except as provided in subsection (a) of this section, nothing in this section shall be construed to alter the defense or handling of a claim under any policy or contract of insurance. (c) The provisions of this section shall not apply to personal lines of insurance. Acts 2005, No. 2271, § 1.
