It is the purpose of this subchapter to effectuate the policies set forth in § 20-21-201 by providing a program: (1) Of effective regulation of sources of ionizing radiation for the protection of the occupational and public health and safety; (2) To promote an orderly regulatory pattern within the state, among the states, and between the United States Government and this state and to facilitate intergovernmental cooperation with respect to use and regulation of sources of ionizing radiation to the end that duplication of regulation may be minimized; (3) To establish procedures for assumption and performance of certain regulatory responsibilities with respect to radioactive materials and radiation equipment and to provide for registration of service personnel; and (4) To permit maximum utilization of sources of ionizing radiation consistent with the health and safety of the public.
