Notice to police when furloughed inmate will be in jurisdiction

(a) The Board of Corrections may promulgate rules to allow inmates to participate in a meritorious furlough program which include a requirement that the county sheriff and the chief of police of the city or town, if applicable, shall be notified if an inmate will be present within their jurisdiction while on furlough. (b) The rules referred to in subsection (a) of this section shall not require the county sheriff or the chief of police of the city or town, if applicable, of the jurisdiction in which an inmate will be present on furlough to approve the granting of the furlough. (c) (1) All Arkansas-certified law enforcement officers are authorized to escort inmates on emergency furlough. (2) The board may promulgate rules necessary to implement subdivision (c)(1) of this section. Amended by Act 2019, No. 315,§ 889, eff. 7/24/2019. Acts 2001, No. 1371, § 1.
