(a) The State Crime Laboratory shall obtain a policy of professional liability insurance in the amount of no less than four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000) to indemnify any person or persons injured by the State Medical Examiner or his or her associates in the performance of their duties under this subchapter. (b) The premium for the policy of insurance shall be paid from funds appropriated by the General Assembly for the maintenance and general operations of the State Crime Laboratory.
