9-273. District system as alternative organization A. Upon the change from town to city government, the city, by a majority vote of the qualified electors, may elect to be governed by a district system of municipal government, and in accordance with the election the common council by a majority vote shall adopt such resolution or ordinance, dividing the city into districts, not exceeding six in number, and the councilmen shall thereafter be elected from districts by the residents of the district. B. There shall be elected a mayor of such city, who shall be the chief executive officer of the city.
