48-5503. Term of office; election A. For a special health care district established pursuant to section 48-5501.01 in a county with a population of two million or more persons, directors shall serve staggered four year terms of office beginning on the first Monday immediately following the declaration of election to office. B. For all other special health care districts, directors shall serve nonstaggered four year terms of office beginning on the first Monday immediately following the declaration of election to office. C. Elections shall be held as prescribed in section 16-204. If only one person files a nominating petition for an election to fill a position on the board of directors for which the term of office is to expire, the board of directors may cancel the election for that position and appoint the person who filed a nominating petition to fill the position. Vacancies occurring other than by expiration of term may be filled by the remaining members of the board of directors.
