(a) A commissioned officer, warrant officer, cadet, candidate, or midshipman of the militia who is convicted of conduct unbecoming an officer may be punished by separation with characterization up to dishonorable discharge and by such other punishment as a court-martial may direct. (b) A court-martial may not impose a sentence of confinement under this section.
