(a) The Calhoun County Commission may levy and provide for the collection of an annual additional motor vehicle license and registration issuance fee in the amount of up to two dollars ($2) on each new registration, transfer, or renewal on any vehicle in the county commencing with the motor vehicle license and registration year commencing on January 1, 2025, if levied prior thereto. If the county commission desires to levy the fee, the fee shall be levied prior to December 1, 2024. Thereafter, the county commission may not levy or amend or reduce the fee. The fee authorized by this section shall only be for one continuing annual two dollar ($2) fee. The license commissioner of the county or other license issuing officials shall collect the issuance fee on each new registration, transfer, or renewal on a vehicle in the county. The fee shall be in addition to all other fees, taxes, and other charges provided for the license and registration of a vehicle. (b) The proceeds from the additional issuance fees upon collection shall be distributed on a monthly basis by the license commissioner to the sheriff of the county to be deposited in the Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Fund to be used for law enforcement purposes. (c) The proceeds from the fees and the use of the fees shall not diminish or take the place of any other source of funding of the sheriff’s office.
