Members Elected from Single-Member Districts; Reapportionment

(a) Effective the next election of the Blount County Commission, the members of the Blount County Commission shall be elected from single-member districts. Each member of the commission shall be a resident and qualified elector of the district he or she represents. (b) Not later than January 1, 2002, the Blount County Commission shall adopt a plan dividing the county into districts of approximately equal population based on the immediately preceding federal decennial census. The variation between districts shall not exceed five percent plus or minus based on districts of equal population. (c) The county commission shall reapportion the commission districts in accordance with the standard in subsection (b) after each federal decennial census. (d) The members of the Blount County Commission serving pursuant to this section shall serve full-time.
