Expense Allowance; Mileage Allowance

(a)(1) Effective June 1, 2025, the Coroner of Marengo County shall receive an expense allowance in the amount of one thousand dollars ($1,000) per month, to be paid in equal monthly installments from the county general fund. The expense allowance shall be in addition to the mileage allowance and in lieu of any expense allowances heretofore provided by law for the coroner. (2) The Marengo County Commission, by resolution, may authorize the coroner to employ a deputy coroner to serve at the pleasure of the coroner. The deputy coroner shall receive an expense allowance set by the county commission, payable monthly from the county general fund. (b) Effective June 1, 2025, the Marengo County Commission may set the mileage allowance for the county coroner and the deputy corner. The mileage allowance shall be paid from the county general fund and shall be in lieu of any mileage allowances heretofore provided by law for the coroner. (c) Effective October 1, 2026, and at the beginning of each fiscal year thereafter, the county commission may increase the expense allowance and mileage allowance paid to the coroner and the deputy coroner. (d) The expense allowances and mileage allowances provided by this section shall be in lieu of any expense allowances or mileage allowances provided by general law. The coroner and the deputy coroner by accepting the expense allowances and mileage allowances shall waive any expense allowances and mileage allowances provided by general law.
