Fingerprinting Fee

(a) The Sheriff of Madison County may charge a fee of ten dollars ($10) for fingerprinting persons for passport identification, employment purposes, or other personal reasons; however, a fee may not be charged if the fingerprinting is performed for a public purpose or on behalf of a public entity. The fee provided by this section shall not apply to a person applying for a pistol permit. (b) The fees collected shall be paid over to the Madison County Commission and be placed into a separate account entitled the Madison County Fingerprint Account to be used for the betterment of Madison County law enforcement available upon requisition of the sheriff for that purpose. (c) The charging of a fee for fingerprinting persons, the payment of the fees to the Madison County Commission, the placing of the fees into a fingerprint account, and the requisition by the sheriff of funds from the fingerprint account for the betterment of Madison County law enforcement prior to April 21, 2004, are hereby validated.
