Fees for Certain Administrative Services

(a) The Sheriff of Lauderdale County may charge and collect a reasonable fee for administrative services, including, but not limited to, fees for fingerprinting, fees for reports, fees for copies of various requested records, and fees for photo identification cards. (b) The sheriff may not charge the fee authorized in subsection (a) to either of the following: (1) A law enforcement agency requesting a service for law enforcement purposes or a person requesting a service on behalf of a law enforcement agency for law enforcement purposes. (2) An individual applying for a pistol permit. (c) Once the amount of the fee set forth in subsection (a) has been established by the sheriff, the amount may not be increased unless approved by majority vote of the county commission. (d) The sheriff shall deposit the fees collected pursuant to this section periodically into the sheriff’s law enforcement fund to be used strictly for expenses related to the operation of the sheriff’s office.
