(a) The Coroner of Jackson County is hereby authorized and empowered to appoint a deputy coroner who shall have authority to exercise all the functions pertaining to the office of the coroner and who shall serve at the pleasure of the coroner. (b) The compensation of the deputy coroner shall be determined by the county commission and shall be payable in the manner prescribed by the county commission from the general fund of the county.
