(a) The Coroner of Barbour County may appoint one or more deputies, as deemed necessary, who shall hold office at the pleasure of the coroner and perform such duties, from time to time, as the coroner may direct. (b) A deputy coroner shall take the oath of office required by Section 279 of the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, and shall receive the same fees for services performed in the place of the coroner that the coroner would receive in performing similar services, with the exception of any expense allowance now received by the coroner.
