(a) For the purposes of this section, the term “sexual assault” is as defined in Section 15-23-121. (b) By the first day of April of each year, every law enforcement agency, as defined in Section 15-5-62, shall report all of the following information for the prior calendar year to the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency: (1) The number of new sexual assault cases reported. (2) The number of new sexual assault cases reported where evidence from a medical forensic examination was submitted for forensic analysis. (3) The number of sexual assault cases reported where evidence from a medical forensic examination was not submitted for forensic analysis and the reason it was not submitted. (4) The number of sexual assault cases that were closed due to judicial or investigative reasons and the reasons the cases were closed. (c) By the first day of April of each year, the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences shall report all of the following information for the prior calendar year to the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency: (1) The number of sexual assault cases received. (2) The number of sexual assault cases completed. (3) The number of sexual assault cases in progress as of December 31 of the prior calendar year. (d) By the first day of May of each year, the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency shall transmit a summary report to the Chairs of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees containing all of the following: (1) The information submitted in accordance with subsections (b) and (c). (2) The name and contact information of any entity that failed to comply with subsections (b) and (c).
