(a) In addition to any other leave for state employees provided by law, when a state employee is subpoenaed to be present, or when any state employee who is a parent of a deceased law enforcement officer is requested by the district attorney or Attorney General to be present, for the trial of a defendant charged with a criminal homicide related to the death of the law enforcement officer in the line of duty, the state employee shall be granted paid leave for any time the employee is required to attend the trial. (b) The State Personnel Department may adopt rules for the implementation and administration of this section.
