Collection of Data Relating to Use of Force Complaints Against Law Enforcement Agencies

(a) Each state, county, and municipal law enforcement agency shall collect all of the following information with respect to each use of force complaint received by the agency: (1) A description of the type of use of force alleged. (2) A description of the race or ethnicity of any law enforcement officer alleged to have used excessive force and of any individual alleged to have been subjected to excessive force. (b) The information shall be reported no less than annually to the Alabama Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Commission according to procedures established by the commission. The commission shall de-identify the information and compile the information into a report for presentation to the Legislature not later than the first legislative day of each legislative session. At the commission’s discretion, the report may consist of aggregated information.
