(a) The Treasurer may employ a chief clerk and such other assistants as may be necessary for the proper conduct of the business of the office, subject to the Merit System. (b) Before entering upon the duties of their respective offices, the chief clerk, the assistant clerk, the pension clerk and the stenographer in the office of the Treasurer shall each execute to the State of Alabama a bond, to be approved by the Governor, in amounts to be fixed by the Treasurer, for the faithful performance of the duties of their offices.
