Board of Medical Examiners - Powers and Duties Generally; Rules and Regulations; Quorum; Fund to Defray Litigation Costs

(a) The Board of Censors of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, as constituted under the laws now in force, or which may hereafter be in force, and under the constitution of the association, as the constitution now exists or may hereafter exist, is constituted the State Board of Medical Examiners and is charged with the duties and clothed with the powers hereinafter prescribed; the board is hereby vested with authority to adopt and promulgate rules and regulations and to do such other acts as may be necessary to carry into effect the duties and powers which accrue to it under laws now in force or which may hereafter be in force; and a quorum as provided for by the constitution of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama shall be competent to act. (b) The board is hereby specifically authorized to set aside from its general revenues and income a special fund designated to defray the fees, costs, and expenses of litigation involving the board and its members or staff, and the commission and its members and staff, arising out of the lawful discharge of the duties and obligations of the board or commission. A portion of the special fund so designated may be expended to purchase liability insurance for the members of the board, its officers, executives, and attorneys and for members of the commission and its officers, executives, and attorneys.
