Distinctive Motorcycle Plates

(a) Residents of Alabama who qualify to obtain a distinctive license plate pursuant to this chapter 6 may be issued a distinctive motorcycle license plate in the license plate category for which they qualify. The standard motorcycle registration fee shall apply to all motorcycle license plates, provided where a registration fee or ad valorem tax exemption or reduction is available for private passenger automobile, pickup truck, and pleasure motor vehicle license plates in a distinctive license plate category, the same exemption or reduction will apply to motorcycle license plates in the same distinctive license plate category. Any annual additional fee that applies to the license plate category for which a resident qualifies shall also apply to the same category of motorcycle license plate. (b) Payment of required license fees and taxes for the years during which a new tag or plate is not issued shall be evidenced as provided in Section 32-6-63. (c) The design for the distinctive motorcycle plates shall be the same design as plates for private passenger automobiles, pickup trucks, and pleasure motor vehicles in each distinctive license plate category. (d) This section shall not apply to Amateur Radio Operator plates provided for in Sections 32-6-70 and 32-6-90. (e) The Department of Revenue may promulgate rules necessary to administer this section.
