(a) A civil proceeding may be maintained to adjudicate the parentage of a child. The proceeding is governed by the Alabama Rules of Civil Procedure or the Alabama Rules of Juvenile Procedure as such applies to the court in which the proceeding is filed. (b) Stipulations in any agreement that seek to bar a paternity action are not enforceable.
