(a) The definitions in the Alabama Minor Adoption Code, provided in Section 26-10E-2, are applicable for this chapter and have the same meaning whenever used in this chapter except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning. (b) For the purposes of this chapter, a de facto parent-child relationship is formed when the petitioner or petitioners have been the primary caregiver for an adoptee and have provided the primary financial support for that adoptee during the time that the adoptee resided with that petitioner or petitioners during the adoptee’s minority.
