Division of Consolidated Municipality into Wards by Commission; Election of Mayor and Other Officers

(a) The mayor and one councilman from each municipality to be selected by the council shall be constituted a commission to divide such consolidated municipality into wards, and if they are unable to agree, they shall call in another person who shall cast a deciding vote, and such consolidated city or town shall be divided into wards as the commission or a majority of them may direct. (b) At a day not more than 30 days after said commission has divided such city or town into wards, an election, conforming to the general municipal election law, shall be held and conducted by officers selected by such commission, at which election a mayor and the proper officers for a municipality of such size shall be elected. Officers conducting such election shall forthwith count the votes and make return to the commission, who shall declare the results of such election, and those receiving the highest number of votes shall be the officers of said consolidated city or town until the next general election and until their successors are elected and qualified.
